Energy Smart

The Energy Smart program offers energy audits and cash rebates for Entergy customers in Orleans Parish who invest in qualifying energy efficiency improvements for their homes, including:
  • High-performance A/C tune-ups
  • A/C system or Window Unit replacement with ENERGY STAR
  • Ceiling and wall insulation
  • Duct and home leakage sealing
  • Direct installation of compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Incentives for solar water heating
  • Energy Efficient Pool Pumps
  • And more!
Energy Smart is a program developed by the New Orleans City Council and administered by Entergy New Orleans, Inc.

How to Maximize Your Savings
Your participation in Energy Smart can be combined with other financial incentives available in New Orleans. Please note that some of these programs require an upfront Home Energy Rating System audit, as noted below. These ratings are available through the Energy Smart program.
Louisiana HERO Program

The state of Louisiana offers the following Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) to help reduce the cost of installing qualified energy efficency meausures for existing and new homes construction:

Existing Homes: Cash rebates of up to $2,000 to Louisiana residents improving the energy efficiency of their homes by 30% or more. This program requires a pre- and post-improvement energy rating by a HERO certified HERS Rater.

Eligible Measures: High levels of insulation, high efficient air conditioning and heating units, water heaters, sealing measures and much more.
Federal Tax Credits

The federal government is providing tax credits for both energy efficiency and renewable energy. Several tax incentives were extended and changed through the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, also known as the "fiscal cliff bill," which passed Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. The residential tax incentives for existing homes, including purchases made in 2012, were extended through 2013. These incentives include the following measures:

  • Windows, insulation, air sealing homes and duct sealing;
  • Air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and water heaters.

The state of Louisiana provides state tax credits of 50% of the cost of each renewable energy system up to a maximum of $12,500 per system for the following installations:
  • Solar Energy Systems – Water heating or PV systems
  • Wind Energy Systems

NOLA Wise is a nonprofit program that helps New Orleans homeowners reduce their utility use by up to 30%. Brought to you by Global Green USA, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, Southeast Energy Alliance, and the Department of Energy, NOLA Wise provides all the tools necessary to make a home more comfortable and energy efficient: analysis of a home's energy loss, access to licensed and trained local contractors, supervision and quality control of the retrofit, and low interest financing through Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank.

This program requires an energy audit.
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
